In this Tableau Vivant, I have through lighting, setting and composition, depicted myself as Venus of Urbino. My composition explores the ideal woman as depicted by men through mythology. Through symbolism, I further explore the ideas, themes and virtues displayed by European society during this era and how it was conveyed within art. I also reference historical events and its impact on the way in which the renaissance was artistically represented. My composition explores humanism, the works of mankind and their self-admiration for their achievements. Overall, my intention was to convey the Renaissance not only as a period of history but as a lifestyle and a system of thinking and understanding.
